Species Description
From the shores of Lake Erie through Columbus and down to the Ohio River, common carp are in a majority of Ohio’s waters. We target them in a wide variety of Ohio’s waterways and even a few spots in western PA. If you’ve ever fished the salt for redfish or bonefish these spooky, strong fighting fish will remind you of just that. One of the only warmwater species in our area that can take you to your backing! Intermediate to advanced anglers will be rewarded by being patient and taking their time to make accurate casts and presentations. June through September are the best months in our area for targeting carp. In Lake Erie they can be found cruising flats and in our inland rivers and lakes they can be found near log jams, shallow flats and even hanging near underneath mulberry trees when berries are falling. Floating lines, long leaders and smaller flies are the go to.
